The Red-tailed Hawk is a medium-sized, broad-winged raptor. It is easily recognized by its black-bordered wing feathers and reddish tail. Its mottled, light colors make it easily distinguishable while flying or perching. Its frequent sightings are due to the diversity of prey it hunts and the lack of other predators competing with it. It is a raptor, like hawks, and is the bird of prey with the best maneuverability. When diving, it can reach an impressive speed of 320 km/h. To avoid inhaling at this speed, it can close the valves in its nostrils. Prairies, open spaces, and wetlands form its habitats. In Turkey, especially in the Marmara region, it is often seen. It can be observed perched on thorns by the roadside in Turkey. During migration seasons, they can be seen in flocks. Watching pairs with their young in forested areas during spring is a delight for nature enthusiasts.
