Owls have ears that are very sensitive to sound, with hearing capabilities greater than humans. Owls have feather-like structures on either side of their faces that collect sound waves and direct them into the ears. These feathers also separate one ear from the other, so sounds coming from the right side are primarily heard by the right ear. Additionally, the ears are not symmetrically placed on the head; one is higher than the other. This allows the owl to hear sounds in super-stereo, pinpointing the exact location of a sound-producing creature even without seeing it. This is a significant advantage when finding prey becomes difficult in snowy conditions.
