The Mouflon sheep is a wild sheep species. They have been living in Cyprus since the Neolithic era. They mostly live in the Troodos Mountains but sometimes cross over to Northern Cyprus. About 3,000 mouflon live in the mountainous regions of Cyprus. Cypriot mouflon are smaller than known species. They are wild animals living freely in the natural habitats of Cyprus. Outside of Cyprus, they can also be seen in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, and Armenia. Mouflon skins, facing extinction, are used in the textile industry. Mouflon weigh between 35-50 kg, have short dark brown fur, and resemble deer. Male mouflon have horns.
