The Roe Deer or Capreolus capreolus is a deer species found in Europe, Anatolia, and along the Caspian Sea. A separate species, the Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus), ranges from the Ural Mountains east to China and Siberia. The two species of roe deer come together in the Caucasus Mountains. While the roe deer inhabit the southern slopes of these mountains, the Siberian roe deer are found on the northern slopes. Roe deer are widespread throughout Europe, except in northern Scandinavia, Iceland, Ireland, and Mediterranean islands, where they are either rare or absent. In Turkey, they are seen in sparsely wooded areas in warm regions. They mainly feed on herbaceous plants and leaves.
