
Both jaws are similarly toothed. They have 5 gill slits. They have a heterocercal tail fin with a strong upward-curving axis and a distinctly retracted ventral lobe. Their length can vary between 1-2 meters. They are pelagic in tropical and temperate seas. They are a Singaporean species. These fish reproduce by giving birth. Usually, two young are born. When two young are born, the larger one eats the other. Their preferred water temperature is 25–27°C. Their diet is carnivorous.
