When viewed from above, the female fish appears plumper than the male. Their bodies are egg-shaped and quite flattened laterally. They are found in still, slow-flowing waters, shallow, warm waters. Their eggs are lighter than water, so they rise to the surface. They stick to plants there. Their eggs are sticky. They love plant-based foods (broken plants, boiled spinach, etc.). The water temperature is 24–26°C. When it’s time to lay eggs, the females make bubbles on the water surface. The female places the eggs under the bubble. The males guard the fry and collect those that escape from the nest with their mouths and bring them back. They are found in Thailand, Malaya, and Indonesia.
